I would always recommend having both. It definitely depends on the species and how you plan out your set up. I found it easier using test tube portals to feed young colonies of my small ant species. (Pheidole, iridomyrmex bicknelli) On the other hand straight to outworld was good for my larger speci...

Nice! Now you wait. Make sure they have a source of protein once the eggs reach the larvae stage. Larvae need protein for healthy growth. Having some substrate like sand will help the larvae spin cocoons once they reach the pupae stage. Other than that, just keep them warm make sure they have access...

This can vary. There are at alot of variables. I was lucky mine started laying 2 days after I found her. Having two queens may affect this. It may take them a little longer to get comfortable. Not sure about W.A but in S.A we just had the iridomyrmex bicknelli have a nuptial. They are everywhere right now. I have also seen pheidole queens over the last week.

Unfortunately this is not an ant. It is a Velvet wasp. Commonly mistaken for ants.

To my understanding lasius niger will take 9-10 weeks to go through the egg, larvae an pupae stage. If she has a lot of eggs and a cocoon it will only be a matter of time.
