Queen ant or Worker?

Hi,
I found an ant yesterday that looked like a queen, although I'm not sure. I think its a Camponotus pennsylvanicus species

Please tell me if it is a worker or queen.

Thanks!

Re: Water almost gone in test tube

Thank-you so much.

The Queen is ok now, she's laid five more new eggs. All I need to worry about now is how to clean up their rubbish and bin pile (which is stuck to the cotton)

Re: Water almost gone in test tube

Hi, I tried the light method, with a hole for breathing, but a worker escaped from the hole. I panicked, and I tried to get the queen into the other test-tube. It wouldn't budge. So I tried putting a thin stick thing with cotton wound around it to try to gently push it out. I ended up having to gent...

Re: Water almost gone in test tube

Thank-you for all your feedback! That is very helpful. This is my first time keeping an ant colony, so I may not do the shaking method, that scares me a bit too much. I will definitely do the taping and light methods.

Again, thank-you everyone!

Water almost gone in test tube

Hi, I have noticed that as my colony now has around 7 workers, the water in my test tube is almost completely drained. The cotton is still wet, but the water is almost out. How should I get the queen and workers to a place with new water? I only have other test tubes, no outworld or anything like th...

MY ANTS HATCHED!! PLZ HELP!

Hi!! I'M SO EXCITED MY ANTS FINALLY HATCHED. They're some kind of really, really small crematogaster. Only one ant has hatched per queen I need to know; when should I feed my queens? I don't know what to feed or when (as in how many workers). People say "honey water" but how do you make that? What c...

Re: Step after test tubes

If you can't purchase any equipment for ants you can always make your own or use the "tubs and tubes method" for keeping your ants. But don't worry about that, for now, you should only move them when they least have 20 or so workers. I would also recommend you keeping them in the test tube for the ...

Re: Ants not leaving nest to forage

I am an extremely inexperienced ant keeper (I only started about a month ago), but to me, the tube looks like its too steep. Maybe its also too slippery for them to climb?

Step after test tubes

Hi, Just so I can prepare before any workers hatch, what is the next step after the test tube? I can't purchase AC portals unfortunately, so is there another way to keep the ants well fed and have enough space? Also, what do I do if the queens are infertile? I can't just let them go out by themselve...
