Re: Formica Fusca queen stopped laying eggs

I believe that they just need to be left alone for a while. Give them regular access to fresh food. What are they getting for protein? First when I connected them to the bigger setup, I did not force them over. The entire setup was in darkness, but one worker went out and discovered it - then went ...

Like I said, give them the option to move, and let them do it on their own. Offer them their sugar in some other way, too.
Okaj, thanks. I'll try that :)

Is there anything else that I can do, if she still does not want to lay any eggs?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Formica Fusca queen stopped laying eggs

You cannot keep your ants in a tube of sugar water! It will go foul very easily. You need to stop forcing them to move around and just give them a test tube with clean water or their formicarium and let them decide where they want to live. Oh, okay. Should I move them into a tube with only water an...

Formica Fusca queen stopped laying eggs

Hi guys, I caught a Formica Fusca queen last summer, and they hibernated her over the winter, and then I took her out and she started laying eggs. About 1 month ago, I moved her (queen + 15 workers) into a a little bigger setup than the test tube, and she suddenly stopped laying eggs. She appeared t...

Formica Fusca Queen does not want to sleep

Hi all, So, I have this formica fusca queen which I have in a tube. I've looked around, and she should be hibernated between 5 and 12C (41F and 54F). I live in the northern parts of Sweden, and we get ~-25C (-10F) at winter. I've put her in my refrigerator and put it on almost max, so it's constantl...

Re: Formica fusca - hibernation

Thank you for your response. Is it safe to change test tube to a new one, full with water? And, how warm/cold should I store it? Should I place it in the basement of my apartment building (where my "shed" is) or just room temperature? Moving queens is always risky as it stresses them but if your cu...

Formica fusca - hibernation

Hi, I caught a Formica fusca about 1.5 months ago ( http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1485&p=9719#p9719 ) and she still hasn't laid any eggs. I got information in my thread that they rarely keep brood over winter. So my questions is, how do I hibernate her? Now she's just in a test tu...

Re: Id queen from northern Sweden

Hm. If that's the case, do I need to do anything special? Feed her or something?
