Re: Mite? On queen ant

The mite is back, will try refrigerating to see if it drops off. If that does not work may try to remove it with a microscope. It is very tiny, barely visible with the naked eye.

Re: Grace Ant Journal

Noticed from my journal that I went out around 8:30-9:30 on my most successful trips. Tonight was later, not sure if they fly around a certain time of the night. But I have noticed the fire ant nuptial flights have been starting around 1:30 to 2:00 pm. They flew last week at 2:00 pm. This week they ...

Re: Grace Ant Journal

Went out to a couple of spots where I caught quite a few Camponotus queens a couple years back. Have been checking these spots every day for the last week or two. It was June 3 last time I started catching C. castaneus queens. I went out at 10:30 then to a second spot at 11:00. Did not see any queen...

Re: Queens trying to escape

Congratulations on the eggs, hope all is still going well. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the egg laying, then the larvae developing and pupating. And was really excited over the first nanitics. Unfortunately the colonies crashed shortly after. It was still an exciting and enjoyable experience for th...

Re: Grace Ant Journal

I went back out and caught five more solenopsis queens, they had all removed their wings and were gathered around 100 foot from the ant hills that were having nuptial flights. Were lots of winged queens as well. I did not collect those since most of the hills were having nuptial flights I was not po...

Re: Help Keeping Queen Alive

Be careful with that back pain heating pad, if you cover it completely with something it could catch on fire. We had one partially under a critter keeper and it overheated to the point that the container melted.

Re: Grace Ant Journal

Caught another queen, watched a nuptial flight of fire ants. Caught a queen several hundred feet from the flight. She had ripped off her wings and was looking around. I noticed she has some sort of external parasite on her. Looked like a mite, anyway I posted a post about that in ant keeping. Will t...

Mite? On queen ant

Caught a queen ant, Solenopsis. Anyway, while looking at her through a loupe I noticed an external parasite. It looks like a tick. I believe it may be a mite. I was trying to get a picture of this mite or whatever it is. It disappeared and I saw the queen chewing on something? Did she eat it? Anyway...
