Re: Help with acorn ants

Alright, I put them in a plastic container, I was impatient so I carefully opened up the acorn, no ants were harmed, though unfortunately I wasn't able to find the queen, is it possible that that acorn had ants but not a queen? The ant that I though was a queen was actually a worker...

Re: Help with acorn ants

They can't escape that's for sure but there's no airflow, will that harm them?

Re: Help with acorn ants

There is a queen with many workers inside, I put the part with the hole in the test tube, the only part that fit and used tape to make sure it doesn't fall out and to ensure that there are no escapees, I'll wait to see if they move in though I'm guessing they'll move when the acorn dries out

Help with acorn ants

Hello, I recently found a temnothorax colony in an acorn and I was wondering if I should leave them in it or move them in a test tube?

She's actually not mated since I found her on her way out of the nest, or atleast I believe she isn't. Thanks for identifying :)

https://imgur.com/a/T2cG5Lr I know the quality is bad, this is the best I can do, the alate I found leaving the nest is 6mm while the workers are 3-4mm in size.

Re: Ant hibernation

Ok thanks for the reply, I do have a few Lasius nigers, I also have a Lasius brunneus, I'm guessing since they're same genus they have similar hibernation cycles, I'll do more research, thanks again.
EDIT: Lasius brunneus hibernates at 5-8 degrees celsius if anyone else is searching for this :)

Ant hibernation

Can ants survive at 7 degrees celsius? I want to put them in my fridge but the warmest temperature is as said.
