Colony still not moving.
I have a B. Depilis colony will three queens and about 30 workers. They were being very stubborn all last summer not moving into a formicarium. They still have not moved. Now that I think about it I want to make a smaller formicarium for them since the one I made it a bit big for them. I am going to...

I kind of use the cardboard the bring the wall a bit closer to the center of the tray. When sealing the glass on make sure the whole area around the water tunnel is glued to the glass.(Just in case i was unclear)

Re: Building Formicarium
I'm interested in making a similar grout setup but I have a few questions. 1) how does hydration work? Do you keep the watering Chamber disconnected from the rest of the tunnels so ants can't drown? 2) what kind of square box or frame do you use to keep the grout in? I'm not really crafty enough to...

Insect Collecting?
I recently heard of the hobby of insect collecting. I have not started the hobby. The hobby involves freezing insects and mounting them and then going on to ID them. I am wondering how everyone feels about the topic of killing them, do you think it is humane. Thanks!

I am back
So I have been off the forum for a while but have not lost the hobby. I made a huge beginner mistake. I caught more queens than I could handle. I had to down size. And a lot of my Camponotus queens did not make it. At this point I have one colony tetramorium sp. E and one Brachymyrmex depilis. I hav...

Re: Pennsylvania and Nearby Locations Nuptial Flight Sightings Thread
I've had so much trouble finding any in the Pittsburgh area. I have my one Solenopsis molesta queen, but that's all. She's been doing fine lately, still alive and moving about, but I don't even know if she's fertile. She's a relatively small species, so I don't think I'll even be able to see her eg...

I know the most common ants would either be meat ants or the sugar ants and i would like to know how long they normally t...
