Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I'm happy to say that my C. us-ca02 has got it's first nanitic. I'll be posting pictures on journal soon. Cool! Looking forward to see the pictures. Have you compared the nanitic to other pictures to confirm our suspicion? https://i.imgur.com/WsGSCC5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1JV6lv6.jpg She sure loo...

Re: Camponatus us-ca02

I'm happy to say that she is for sure a us-ca02. Her first worker has finally arrived! https://i.imgur.com/xlHowKZ.jpg I think I caught her in the middle of eclosing. Oops. Her seond worker should arrive in a week. Now I get to track exactly how long it takes for a pupae to hatch. A new pupae has re...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Hello! I am new to ant keeping and I have caught 4 queens which I believe are Camponotus pennsylvanicus. I’ve had them in test tube setups for about 5 weeks now, and 3 of them have eggs. I’ve only checked on them about once a week, but I have not really noticed a change in size of the eggs. They ma...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Hi All! It took me forever, but I finally have something to show for my work. As you know I have been working on creating a project for our students which will have them build their own arena and raise their own colony of ants. But that would mean they'd (eventually) need a formicarium too. So insp...

It's actually not mine, but from the school I work at. They've bought it at a Dutch website.
It looks super cool. I'm preshopping for a formicarium, hoping to find a pretty decent sized one. My queen is not small, and I doubt the workers will be small either, considering how big the pupae is.

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Oh and just in case you're wondering about my Lassius queen, here's her setup: https://i.imgur.com/bC2abf8.jpg Somehow, her test tube nearly ran out of water. I added the formicarium and outworld last week and I guess that the increased airflow has dried out the tube. So, I had to tease her a bit t...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

And we saved her! Now I need help with an id. She is 5mm and found in the enterance of a red ant coloy nest. I am leaning towards a black crazy ant, but 5mm seems awfully small for a queen? I'll try getting more pictures to help id her. I need to feed her a bit of honey anyways, she's pretty hurt s...
