Re: Are Tetramorium Ants Polygynous?

If you have a pool or other standing water source its actually a good spot to retrieve queens. I retrieved around 60 from my pool last summer and managed to revive around 40 by letting them dry in a jar in the sun for a bit. They were tetramorium immigrans and were quite resilient despite most bein...

Re: Starting a Colony

My name is Jackson Strong, and I'm 14, too. 8-) I would suggest finding out what species of ants live in your area. Then you can catch a queen ant of a species that lives in your area during their nuptial flights. After, that then you can rear the queen in a test-tube. If you don't want to catch a q...

Re: Are Tetramorium Ants Polygynous?

Thanks for the help! I am not going to buy them anymore. I will try to find them during their nuptial flight here in June. I am not willing to risk them fighting, so I will just keep them in seperate test-tubes. Thanks for the help, again. :D Also, how long has Tetramorium sp. E been renamed to Tetr...

Are Tetramorium Ants Polygynous?

I am looking at buying some Tetramorium sp. E ants and I just wanted to know if they were polygyne ants. Could you just add in multiple queens? In read on a website that it was debatable whether tetramorium sp. ants are polygyne.

Do Tetramorium sp. E need protein?

I have recently been caring for a Tetramorium sp. E colony, and I have recently fed them only Carbohydrates and fruit for the past week. They were resonably large and now with the carbohydrate diet they have still exploded in population. I don't know if they could last off only carbohydrates. What s...

Re: Tetramorium nuptial flight in Tazewell, IL?

You should try to catch a Tetramorium queen in May or late June during their nuptial flights. Then if you can catch a fertile queen, then you should put it into a test tube setup which you already know about, then go from there.

Tetramorium Immigrans Nuptial Flights

I am new to the ant keeping hobby, and right now I'm looking for some queen tetramorium ants. I haven't been successful. Since I live in Colorado, does anyone know any good spots to catch queen tetramorium ants in Colorado ?
