Re: What Queen is this?

I found this queen while I was catching Tetr. E queens 1 week ago. She hasn't laid any eggs yet, and she's very active. She's 6 mm long, not quite brown. I found her mid-afternoon in grass. There were no other queens of her kind to be found in the area. https://i.imgur.com/KYiNkBo.jpg https://i.img...

Where do I get my formicaria from?
I know tar heel ants have some very good stuff but it's a little pricey. I want to know where else I can buy formicaria before I go to tar heel. Thanks

Found this alate on June 19th in Jacksonville Florida. ~6mm in length from head to gaster. Shed wings day after caught.
Any help with ID would be greatly appreciated :)

I killed a fruit fly and it was not damaged at all I fed it to my Lasius Neoniger colony is this ok? The colony has around 15-20 workers.
don't see why not... unless you highly value them for some reason...

Am I right to assume that the size of the colony depends on the size of the habitat?
I mean... otherwise, why would anyone buy the small ant tower, right?
if you had tiny ants like Aphaenogaster

So I was wondering about using the small frozen bloodworms you feed fish as a protein source for my ants?
If you don't know they're like mosquito larvae.
don't see why not

Re: Anybody raise a Formica obscuripes?

I can’t seem to get them to lay eggs in a test tube. I’ve tried giving them fusca larvae but they don’t even touch it. I’ve put fusca workers in with them too and still nothing. So I took one queen and put her in an outworld with a fusca queen and 20 workers and it looks like she layed her eggs in ...

Thanks hawkeye. To all the keepers of pennslyanicus, what size test tubes do you use if you do? I am most likely going to order some 20mm diameter 150mm length, but I was wondering if that is too small, as they are quite large?
I use 16mmx150mm

Cant get the img to display, even after tutorial. So here's the link instead. http://imgur.com/a/HjqRqrj First time ant keeper, caught this queen over a week ago. I watched her rip the wings off, so I knew she was ready to go! First couple days she spent some time in her out world, and I was concer...
