Ant ID Brisbane, QLD, Australia - Queen/Iridomyrmex?

Hi All, I just caught this ant now - in Australia. I believe it is an Iridomyrmex bicknelli - I understand their nuptial flights in Australia are between March-May. I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 1~ cm long give or take 2 mm. Photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/1885...

Hi Friend, I think it would depend on the species of ant - especially if they are affected by pH. It wouldn't hurt to make your set up, moisten it and leave it for an hour or two. If you go to your local chemist they should have some pH paper. Take your measurement, and then check your specific spec...

Hi All, I've recently acquired two Camponotus consobrinus queens - test tube setups at the moment. After some research, I've found some wild colonies can be polygynous.
