Re: Oklahoma Nuptial Flight Sightings 2020
Hi! So I am wanting to try an larger species this year, something like camponotus or pogonomyrmex. Anyone had any luck with those in Oklahoma, and anyone have any idea when I should expect to see them flying around here? So far I have found nothing, sadly, even though the conditions have been wonder...

Re: Oklahoma Nuptial Flight Sightings 2020
Hello! I have been inactive for months and months now, but a new season is creeping up so I am excited to start posting my finds on here more often again! Sadly my colony died in hibernation about a month ago, so I am ready to find some new queens! If anyone starts to find anything, then please post...

Re: How to attach firebrick for use in place of ytong
Hi,
So sorry!! I kinda gave up on this thread, but super surprised and happy to see answers! As for my question, I got lazy and just bought a formicarium. So far, my formica fusca(?) colony is doing great in it! It is plaster and it works very well. Thanks for the help!

Re: Oklahoma Nuptial Flight Sightings 2020
Hi!
I would be down to buy, but one of my queens that I thought was dead just produced 10 workers today! Also, just caught 13 solenopsis sp. queens, I think they are invicta so sadly I will have to kill them as I don't want to give away or raise an invasive species.

Re: Oklahoma Nuptial Flight Sightings 2020
Thats great to hear! You are lucky, camponotus would be one of my most ideal species to keep. Please keep us updated on your queen, but don't disturb her to often! If you end up joining the GAN project, you may have a customer Good luck with the queen!

Re: black light for catching ants during nuptial flight
Yeah, I use a blacklight trap that I built myself. It has caught 5 tapinoma sessile queens, however they have all been unfertilized. Idk if thats just bad luck or if it will only attract unfertilized ants. I'd say its worth a shot, but I wouldn't blow big money and anything super extravagant.

How to attach firebrick for use in place of ytong
Hi! I have a queen who has just laid eggs, and I am starting to do some thinking about formicarium setup. I am wanting to do an all-in-one type nest, where the formicarium and the outworld are all one unit. I would use ytong to do the carving and tunnel sculpting areas, however here in the U.S. no o...

Re: Oklahoma Nuptial Flight Sightings 2020
This being my first year, this may not be the most trustworthy answer. That said, I have heard the you are most likely to find them between may-june. If you are lucky, they may fly as late as September. Good luck!
