You can try ordering online, but if you still cant do that, you can try placing the queen inside a small container with a wet cotton ball inside. Just make sure to keep on watering the cotton and make sure it stays moist and also to not disturb the queen as much as possible. Good luck!

The only possible reason is that they had escaped. Try to locate the holes or gaps that your ants escaped through.

I would always recommend the test tube setup to any ant keeper as it is way easier to monitor. I've successfully tried keeping a trap jaw queen in a natural setup but had to eventually let the colony go as i was too busy with too many colonies to take care of.
