Re: Do messor barbarus sting?

Just saying, a google search could have told you the answer, do this for future questions and come here if it does not give you the answer you need, here's what the first popup on google said: no they do not sting, but the majors can bite (not exactly that) :? This thread is literally the first lin...

Re: Springtails

Springtails might be a bit hard to catch for larger ants due to their speed. So, although your ants might hunt them if they're starving, they wont be their prefered protien source, due to the amount of energy your ants will need to use to catch them.

Re: Lasius claviger habitat

With regards to feeding, best option is to put the honey onto some cotton wool and let it soak in, then place the wool in. This will allow the ants to drink from it without risking downing or it being absorbed by the substrate. If the fornicarium is what I think it is, then yes the 90deg tubes are f...

Re: Can ants eat freeze dried mealworms?

I think it's a case of try it and see i'm afraid. My Lasius.N don't seem to like mealworms that i've bought alive and then frozen myself, but there are only a few workers at the moment so im not sure if colony size is a factor. Also I've been feeding them leftover from my own meals so they might jus...

Re: Adding water to test tube setup

You could either try very carfully "injecting" more water in behind the cotton with a long pippette or idealy a syringe with a long needle. Another option would be to wet the cotton used to seal the end of the test tube. This would need re-wetting and might be worth taking it out when applying more ...

Re: HELP condensation in jar

Personally I would try putting some cotton in the setup if possible to try and absorb some of the humidity. Changing it when it gets damp. Not sure if this is a viable option depending on how much space is available. Also be aware the heat mat actually raises the air humidity, but obviously you dont...

Queen stole her tinfoil "feeding tray" and wont give it back!

Hi hope you all are well. I recently aquired a Camponotus Herculeanus (Carpenter) queen and decided to feed her some "Sunburst ant nector" on a peice of cotton, along with a bit of pork for protein, then placed them both onto a peice of tinfoil to try and avoid contaminating the test tube. She began...
