Ok, thx. I watered the hybrid nest, and added a water tube to it. ima add an outwolrd as well and put honey in it so they know there's food in there.

Moving fire ant colony from dirt jar into AC hybrid nest
I cant seem to get my fire ants to leave their dirt jar in favor of the new solenopsis hybrid nest 2.0. Tried light, heat mat, and lemon juice. any ideas?

did just that, keeping the jar near a power strip so its slightly warm, however no heat mat. all seems well for now. just need to keep em like that for a week or so.

I'm keeping a colony of Solenopsis. Geminata in a jar until my Hybrid nest Solenopsis 2.0 gets here, but there is alot of condensation/ humidity in there (prolly 90%+). its desert/ temperate, I know it isn't Invicta though cause it doesn't have the third upper tooth. Xyloni are rare here though since Invicta has kinda wiped them out in my area.

How to tell what species of Solenopsis I have (invicta, xyloni, or geminata)
I managed to catch a wild colony of fire ants in socal, but cannot tell what kind of solenopsis. I have found they are Solenopsis though.
The majors have a lobed head, black gaster on 98% of them, the rest have half brown, half red gasters. they are a light red/orange color too.

I just caught about 1-1.5K fire ants in socal, any specific tips for keeping them. i have them in a jar, that has water and food. feed them honey and straw berry for sugar, and crickets for ants. how long should i keep them in this mason jar? how long until they reach 2K+ ants under perfect conditio...
