I'm guessing no one knows about any of this, then... probably shouldn't have put this under "FREQUENTLY asked questions," LOL

Re: can ants have maple syrup

Huh, I never thought about that! This is a good point, though, and I'll have to try it with my ants. Maple syrup is coming up!

Re: The funny misadventures of ant hunting

So, when I first started out antkeeping, my dad wasn't too thrilled... he didn't want a ton of ants all over the house, and told me that a lot of ants eat wood (they don't). Re: Research For College

As a huge fan of certain exotic ant species, and a hopeful myrmecologist, I was very happy to discover that there is a permit you can apply for to import ants (and there's a lot of caveats before they'll give you said permit). Carebara castanea, 100%. I love the striking dimorphism between the queen and her workers, they're so tiny and she's so huge!

It's not super high-tech, but I enjoy it.

Re: Imagine an Ant

Pale grey ants whose queens are two-three inches long, but the workers are only about a millimetre long, that spray formic acid and herd aphids. Also, polygenous, and super-colony forming. And fully claustral, just because that's easier to keep (and the big queens would be easier to find during nups...
