Re: My crematogaster queen has eggs!
I hope somebody is still following this topic. My queen has got to be dead. She's belly up, with legs curled in. Her antennae are gone. HOWEVER, the workers are still caring for her after all these months. AND new eggs still keep appearing!!! What is going on here? I mean it's not a lot of eggs, it...

Re: My Myrmica Rubra (European Fire Ants!) have eggs!
Sadly I've euthanized this colony. They got really badly infested with mites. I didn't know how to deal with them and I didn't want the mites to spread so I put this colony in the freezer. At least some of the queens had laid eggs, but I still don't know if they had mated successfully as the eggs ne...

Re: My tetramorium queen has eggs!
This by far has been my most successful colony. The number of eggs/larvae/pupae/workers is beyond counting. There is a decent sized pile in their test tube. I've already had them move once to a new tube when the first one ran out of water. I've been mostly feeding them fruit flies and spiders until ...

Re: My camponotus novaeboracensis has eggs!
So oddly not much has changed. She has only had 4 workers all this time. Only recently has she laid a few more eggs, but as far as I can tell there's only one left which one of the workers is taking care of. I'm not sure why there's no progress here but the queen and the current workers are very act...

Re: My crematogaster queen has eggs!
I am very certain the queen is dead. The workers are still caring for it nonetheless. And some of the workers are still carrying around what appear to be new eggs. I can't possibly see how the workers could be laying the eggs as the eggs are large relative to the workers' gasters IMHO. Could the dea...

My Myrmica Rubra (European Fire Ants!) have eggs!
So almost a month ago I was out at the beach near Lake Ontario just to sit and enjoy the early morning. When I returned to my car it was covered in myrmica rubra elates. I actually got to observe the males tackling and doing their dance with the females. I took this opportunity to capture 4 females ...

Is my crematogaster queen dead? There are NEW eggs!
OK. At this point, my queen looks completely dead. Curled up legs, no movement. She has been this way since my last post. It looks like her antennae may be missing now too. HOWEVER, the workers are still looking after her and, it appears, feeding her. Today I went to check in on them an interestingl...

Re: My crematogaster queen has eggs!
When I checked on her this morning, she was still "kicking". The workers were still grooming her. But at this point she doesn't appear to be moving anymore and I think she is dead. If I were to introduce a new queen to the workers, what are the chances that they would accept her? It's the season for...

Re: My crematogaster queen has eggs!
I think my crematogaster queen is dying... she doesn't look well. Earlier today she was convulsing and now she is lying on her side, only moving a leg occasionally. The workers all seem fine and there is a large pile of pupae ready to eclose. I don't know what to do.
