The pictures are really blurry, so here's a link to a possible species: https://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_ants/golden_ant.htm
Do they look like that?

Re: Cought in South East South Dakota mid September
Definitely Camponotus, not queens though.
They could be Pennsylvanicus or Modoc if these major workers are that large. Every other species I looked up for your area are either much smaller, or have distinct colours and patterns.
Hope this helps.

Re: Found in Mid-Michigan late August
Looks like a very gravid Lasius queen. Head seems a bit small for camponotus, and her thorax is massive.
Here's a Lasius Niger for reference:

Why are my queens tearing at their cotton?
I caught these 2 queens crawling along the sidewalk about a week ago, and noticed that they still had their wings attached. I stuck them in test tubes and noticed that they immediately started tearing at the cotton. I read online that they usually stop after a few days so I wasn't too worried. After...

Re: Any identification possible queen???
Hi, the ant in your image is hard to see, but there are features that look similar to 2 queens I caught recently. I posted about it here: https://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15804 Let me know if that helps, also try to get a picture from the side/above so we can see if there are wing s...

Re: Please help me identify my ant
I believe that's a termite. Not sure if male or female though. Unfortunately to keep termites you need to have both as the male has to be present to constantly fertilize the queen.

4-5 mm ant, not sure what caste or species
I found 2 of these little 4-5 mm reddish-brown ants under a rock, they were sitting only inches from a large colony of yellow-brown ants that were closer to 3.5mm in size, and had very pointed gasters, so I'm convinced my 2 catches are unrelated, but possibly are of a parasitic species. These 2 litt...
