Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I have 19 queens at the moment. 5 have noticeably been picking at cotton and covering their larvae with it. Almost 1 in 4 are doing it. If that helps

Is it very common for queens with brood to pull and pick at the cotton?

I'm thinking american carpenter ant/camponotus americanus. What do you guys think? There are a few that look really similar. I'm using this website to ID them:

Thank you kherafox! I am still in the excited phase. I have yet to get overwhelmed. *knocking on wood* I figured at most, I'll end up buying 16 10 gallon tanks within a year. $160 usd at petco during the sales. I can go collect dirt, a few plants, and dead wood from the collection site to keep a clo...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

A friend and I walked around a wooded area lifting up loose bark on fallen over trees. We noticed they were only found on horizontal trees/branches with loose bark. The trees were also very dry. I went during an afternoon where it rained the night before. Clear skies and scattered/minimal clouds. Te...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I'm still trying to figure out how to post photos. I very technology challenged. Haha. I found a website to post photos but I cannot find how to share them individually yet. Anyway, here is a link to my profile where I posted 3 photos of my 16 camponotus pennsylvanicus. 2 of the photos were incorrec...
