Re: Aphids
Ants can't overeat they can only fill their stomachs to a certain size due to the limitations by their exoskeleton. They might gather and store food for a rainy day though. okay thanks for the info. I left the gnats in there alive so that they would stay fresh longer, and the ants could eat at thei...

Pheidole Dentigula Food Preferences
Pheidole Dentigula seem to be very picky eaters! So far the most success has been with flightless gnats. I think this has to do with a number of factors, besides simply being picky eaters! 1. They are a small colony. 2. Of moderately small ants, relative to Pheidole sizes. Hard to take down large pr...

Re: Aphids
There are toxic aphids? Yep, some aphids from what I've read, are toxic to some insects. After reading that, i looked closer, and realized that my ants would not go near these Oleander Aphids. So i removed the aphids. Next, i tried some Mealybugs. It didn't work. What i think happened, is either on...

Re: general talk about our colonies
These posts seem more like a running diary/ logbook at this point, though maybe everyone is on vacation.. Im really loving my Pheidole Dentigula, such a great species! So recently i stopped catching flies and purchased a few containers of flightless gnats, so as to create a sustainable source of foo...

Re: Pharaoh Ants in colder countries.
Be careful around pharoh ants they are masters of escape and are known to even carry diseases that can effect humans. Still they would be a very fast growing species. I just made a habitat for a friend's black pheidole colony. He is good at caring for creatures of all types, though not so good at m...

Re: Baltimore maryland resident looking to start a common and colony looking for help
Hello, Down here in South Carolina, the ants are everywhere, and so admittedly it is i think much easier to find young colonies. Many people prefer to find young queens just at or after they have had the nuptial flights and are finding a place to set up a colony. I have done this but in my trial and...

Aphids
Hello, Im planning the next home for my Pheidole Dentigula. I've often wondered if their diet is diverse enough, as they seem to be very very picky eaters. So im considering aphids on the appropriate plant in this new home. - Do any of you know, or can point me in the right direction, of information...

Ant Senses
Can anyone expand on ant senses? Eg. Smell and sight. I know that sight will vary depending on species, but what about smell? Can they smell things in the wind, or are they more so only able to smell when they touch with their antenna? Seems that they get close, touch it with antennas, bring the ant...

I had no idea!
That is messed up. Not as bad, but in the same realm of scammer-scum. There's a special place in hell for scammers.
Thank you for your good work!
