Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

coolfrood16 My best advise here is to stay calm and think about the problem pragmatically. With one Nantic’s passing your ants are missing something. They have shelter (test tube) next they need food and water. I am not familiar with your species so I won’t be able to get into specifics I am sure th...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

ArazonaAnt proper temp speeds up brood growth if your room is climate controlled and your ants are eat loving then yes heat would speed up. Plenty of info on the web provide a temperature gradient that matches your coloney so the ants can choose the correct temperature for themselves. And protein is...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

2-3 weeks ago my C penn Colony started refusing protein and start loading up on water and sugar. I caught them snoozing today weather is starting to get cold. Pulled them off of heat going to let them cool down in a cold part the house. Got a thermometer with them so I can monitor the temp. Their se...

Re: What Foods can I feed to ants without fear of mites?

I have been freezing any and all “live” proteins that I have been providing my colony. An hour or two in the freezer should be enough to kill mites. That being said I read some where of a trick of buying or catching feeder insects gut loading them and the freezing them for a few hours and then trans...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Update on the "lazy" C. Penn. ants. Bought a 4v small heating mat and a thermometer from the pet store and provided them with a tube of fresh sugar water. Almost every single ant has a full gaster and I have seen a forager in the out world. Since I was using a heating pad made for humans before and ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

They haven't gone near it there is a lid on their out world so the oil is just piece of mind. It does appear that I might need to reapply a thin layer after about 4-6 weeks but it was super easy to apply in the first place and I didn't have to worry about spilling any as it was just a tab on a paper...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Are Camponotus Pennsylvanicus "lazy" ants with a small colony size? Mine just sorta lay around with full bellies for the past week. Queen has been busy laying eggs and they are raising brood which are being well fed. I have been mixing up the food offerings over the past few weeks apple slice here c...
