Re: Starting Lasius Americanus colony

2nd worker finally arrived today..January 1st. Now there's a queen, 2 workers and several eggs/larva/pupa. Why is it taking so long? Something must be right as it (the colony) IS growing, just very slowly.

Starting Lasius Americanus colony

New question regarding the queen I've asked about before: I'm 95% certain I have properly identified the queen as Lasius Americanus (thanks to you guys! 👍). I have a test tube setup (only it's a little smaller and clear rubber tubing instead of glass...plenty large enough that she can easily turn 36...

Re: How long can ants survive on honey?

I posted this already I thought attached to my last post: somehow it's a miracle. I swear I'm not making this up: I was so convinced my first worker was dead that I poked it with a toothpick just to make sure. Zero movement. Nothing. I woke up about 8 hours later and she was running around again. No...

Re: Dead worker

Well nevermind. It came back to life. I swear I was touching it with a toothpick last night and it's body was lifeless. 9 hours later I looked again and it was running around fine again. Can anyone explain that?

Dead worker

I started a Lasius Americanus queen back in early August. From the first generation only one ant hatched. She was tending the queen, larvae, etc. I gave them a droplet of honey, water and a fruit fly. Then suddenly my worker died. How long do minims (the first generation) live...and...if another pup...

Re: How long can ants survive on honey?

I don't hand them in a test tube. They are in clear, rubber tubing. Much thinner than a test tube but but enough for them. Too small to get tweezers in. New question: I'm about to cry. Out of the first generation only one worker and hatched. It died today and no idea why. She was eating fine, taking...

How long can ants survive on honey?

I have a queen (what I'm fairly certain is) Lasius Americanus. From the first batch of eggs only one worker hatched so she is being fed and there are now new eggs and larvae. Obviously I'm trying to get the colony a little bigger so I can release them from their tube set up, however it's taking a li...

Awesome! I was thinking Lasius Niger but I'm pretty new at this. Thanks!

Need help identifying queen ant

I caught this ant in extreme North East Florida (Jacksonville) around maybe the first week of August. It appears to be about 8mm long and one minim has hatched so far. If there's anymore helpful info I can give please let me know! Thanks!

Re: Will infertile queen Solenopsis Invicta lay eggs?

Sorry it took a while to get back....busy with work. Anyway...I don't have a PC, just a phone. I have seen others using Imgur however so I will try that. Hopefully it'll help? Oh..also I'm not familiar with metric. I got a measuring tape with mm...it's more like 8mm long and there's one minim in the...
