Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Letting him go is definitely a judgement call. I see nothing wrong with keeping him to see how long you can get him to survive. Am I wrong in assuming the minnie is not a carpenter variety? Assuming the species does not cause damage to properties I think you could release him wherever as well. The o...

Re: Protective Custody
Best pictures from todays check in. #1: Sitting pretty, not a great shot but its what I could manage. https://i.imgur.com/gGXu6sb.jpg #2 worked out much better having a clear tube. Ended up rotating the eggs to the ceiling as I got the foil readjusted for pictures and they're nicely visible, as is t...

Re: Protective Custody
I really wonder how far along those 2 queens were if they were possibly already producing majors. The mystery really deepens with the fact they were in close proximity, have looked into that more than feeding and care so far now and I'm left with 4 possibilities in no particular order... First is t...

Re: Protective Custody
So all the stories of the colonies that come out of that drawer... are tales from the crypt? Heh, but catching up, quite a bit of excitement I see. Glad they are all doing alright. Wondering if you'll be able to snag any pics of the mega pupa. More or less, honestly I didn't TPK often so its closer...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Don't invest much in my inexperienced advice, but I would guess hazards from food spoilage would be something they would cope with before succumbing to. If you provide a fresh nest tube they may relocate everyone and let the shrimp keep on keeping on, or they may recognize the hazard and remove it w...

Re: Protective Custody
The new nest boxes. They live in a drawer in my D&D room, the one where fallen adventurers are laid to rest, a crypt of sorts.

Re: Protective Custody
Well, the morning checkup went great. Both inmates are in their tubes, all helpers and brood are not visible outside, and inmate 2 and pals seem to have been soo excited during the move they brought some of their wood scraps to decorate their new nest entrance. Last night the largest worker was hold...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Yeah, the Milton farm... I remember asking why the ant coupon said refill on it. When I realized ants don't pair up, but have queens instead, and that one wouldn't be included I asked what the point was and we never mailed it in lol. I also had the opposite understanding about effective barriers, ei...

Re: Protective Custody
Micro update. It appears I worry too much inmate 1 and friends were seen in tube shortly after the last update so I took the opportunity to move the tube opening near the scattered brood. Just checked again and only 2 tiny eggs visible outside still so the tube nest has been accepted it seems. The q...
