Re: Into the Fire

Ant update: Confusion. I can see Karen wandering around on the surface of the dirt quite often. I CAN'T see any nanitics or workers. What's going on? Isn't she supposed to be hibernating with her offspring? As a south american species, I'm not sure they CAN hibernate. They just sort of slow down. S...

Re: Into the Fire

Now with winter truly setting in... The ant updates will likely slow. The little girls don't care too much for the colder temperatures and will slow their activities.

Re: Into the Fire

Karen has finally moved out of her tube!... then immediately buried herself in the dirt of her outworld. While there's a perfectly good brood chamber less than an inch away... A cockroach nymph has taken that over now.

Re: Into the Fire

Karen... is being a Karen. Instead of moving out into the ant cube, she has her children gathering up dirt from the outworld and making little pyramids in her tube.

Re: Into the Fire

Moving day has arrived! The ant tube is now connected to the ant cube... Things were a bit rocky and I may have lost some poor nanitics. I don't know until everyone settles down. Now we wait for Karen and her babies to move out and into the cube.

Re: Into the Fire

Ant update: We are up to 5 workers! One is a regular minor caste and aside from being generally.. chunkier and thicker of head, limb, and thorax, is the same as the nanitics. Karen, apparently, loves water as she spends all of her time perched on the soaked cotton ball which seals off the water cham...

Re: Into the Fire

Well I don't have exact measurements but they're a little over a mm. There are 4 the last time I checked. And they're going into a small chinese formicarium set up which is roughly an 11cm cube with various compartments and a built in outworld.

Re: Into the Fire

It mostly just feels cruel to keep them all locked in such a tiny space. Plus I want to get them installed as quickly as possible so I can start working on security measures. Well once I got my first workers I immediately connected their tube to an AC test tube portal. They seem to be fine. Well So...
