Re: having trouble with queen

So I bought a Camponotus Sanabeanus a couple of weeks ago. They had one worker a dead worker and a egg. I brought them home and moved them into a new test tube, they didn’t bring the egg but I didn't force them and disconnected them. I kept them in the dark for 2 weeks before she laid eggs. I fed h...

Offerings to the food god? Hahaha nice to hear you and your ants are doing well!
Maybe that's how they say they're ready for more food heheh!
Thank you! I'll try to keep up a little better!

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

It's been a while, nice to see how big the group's grown! I've been just lurking for now, but wanted to finally give an update on my queens! I have 3 novaeboracensis, and 2 pennsylvanicus queens, and all of them have nanitics! They vary from 9 nanitics with a few more pupa, down to 2 with a single p...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

That’s funny she’s not moving them out of the light. I just use my mobile phone (iPhone8) to take pictures. Sometimes they are crystal clear other times not but I’m sure it’s because of lighting or I moved. I'll just let her do her thing I guess. I've just been using my phone too and I'm getting si...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Thank you! I need to get some kind of camera or magnifier so I can take good pics and vids, some of these queens are super calm! I have the queen with mold in her original tube connected to a new dark tube, and she's just sitting in the light feeding her larva it looks like. At first I was worried I...

Re: New ant keeper looking for help

I caught my first queen ant (Carpenter ant) in April. She had wings and almost ran her over with my bike while taking my dog for a walk. She laid eggs sometime in the first two weeks in a test tube set up. There were six eggs. It's now June, she has one larvae and it's pretty much the same size as ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Hello! I thought I'd introduce myself because I'm raising some Camponotus queens! This is my first time attempting to raise a colony, and every queen I found almost seemed meant to be! I have 2 C. pennsylvanicus (I'm pretty sure now) and 3 C. novaeboracensis all found within the same week, and I hav...

Re: NA:Michigan 6/24 and 6/27 Queen Identification Please

Well first of all congratulations on capturing not one, but two queens! I think you correctly identified the Camponotus novaeboracensis but I am not sure about the pennsylvanicus. Maybe it just doesn't show very well in the picture you supplied, but the pennsylvanicus has a segment before her abdom...

Re: NA:Michigan 6/24 and 6/27 Queen Identification Please

Thank you very much!

I'll take a look and see if I can see any better or get a better picture, even for such huge ants they're still so small!

I'm definitely going to be checking out that link in your signature, because I might not have stopped at two!

NA:Michigan 6/24 and 6/27 Queen Identification Please

Hello everyone! I have recently caught my very first queens, and would like to double check their identification! I have done lots of googling, and believe I have Camponotus pennsylvanicus and Camponotus novaeboracensis queens, but there are so many species, so I thought it'd be best to check. The f...
