Near Disaster...

Well my formerly 5 queen Tetramorium colony imploded. Nanatics were around nearly 2 months before they decided to cull the queens. I had hoped that the day wouldn't come of course as the colony had reached 60+ nanatics by the time the battle began. The queens did not fight one another thankfully. Th...

The dreaded moment for my Tetramorium

Well the moment I was hoping wouldn't happen started today. My 5 queen Tetramorium Immigrans colony did 2 things... 1) finally began moving to the fresh test tube and 2) Began attacking queens. I have had nanatics for nearly 2 months, the colony has around 60 workers and a giant brood pile so each p...

5 Queen Tetramorium Immigrans Colony

Well 10 days since my last update... Still 5 queens. The colony is around 40-50 Nanatics currently and the brood pile is growing larger. All queens appear to have swollen gasters too which is a good sign. My current problem is likely going to be real estate related as they are quickly outgrowing the...

DIY Acrylic Formicariums... DO NOT

So trying to be thrifty I chose to look for cheaper alternatives like the one in the title... I am here to warn you while it may look cool the design is seriously flawed. They use a sturdy rubber band to fasten the outworld which creates spaces. I started to transfer my Lasius Flavus colony in not r...

Against the odds. 5 Queen Tetramorium Immigrans

So 16 days ago I gave an update on my colonies. Included was a group of 5 Tetramorium queens who raised a large batch of brood together. At the time of update they had already had nanatics for a couple of weeks around 20 or so. I went on a 10 day vacation out of state in which I was extremely concer...

Update on my Ants

Sadly my once flourishing Tetramorium Immigrans colony has basically disappeared... Down to 6 workers. Planning on releasing them soon. My 3 queen Lasius Flavus colony is doing well with around 200 workers. My Lasius Niger have stalled likely because I brood boosted and accidentely introduced a numb...

Re: Disaster in my set-up

My tetramorium colony is in peril it seems... not exactly sure what happened but it looks like they were unable to care for the brood that i boosted with properly. I cant tell if the test tube has moisture from condensation or the test tube began to leak or a combination or my other theory is the l...

Re: European Fire Ant Colony Help!!

I would be wary of using vaseline if you have any type of soil or refuse present. I had a a few hundred wild tetramorium immigrans workers that I tested various methods on. Vaseline was good initially however the ants began placing soil and other debri into the vaseline like stepping stones which th...

Update on my wild caught Lasius Niger

This colony is thriving right now... I caught the queen and around a hundred workers so ot had a stable foundation to begin with. It took a few days for the workers to explore their temporary set up which is 3 test tubes connected by a T connector and tubing attached to a makeshift outworld. Waiting...
