Re: Strange Queen behaviour?

The pictures are to dark to make that determination sorry. Check antwiki.org for species that live in Canada Moved the queen that doesn’t have eggs yet into a proper test tube setup and put my phone flashlight on her to get a better look at her, I’m pretty confident now that she and the other queen...

Re: Strange Queen behaviour?

Sorry must have missed that post. Could it be Camponotus modoc ? It's possible it does look very similar to her but if you look closely at her she doesn't have nearly as many hairs as Camponotus modoc and her hairs are dark while this species tends to have light golden coloured hairs. I was thinkin...

AntsCananda Test Tubes too small for my queens.

I had planned to move them into the AntsCanada test tubes I ordered when they arrived but not I'm not so sure that they'll fit, both of my queens are like half of the size of the diameter of the test tubes if not bigger so I'm not entirely sure If i should move them in or not. I did also buy two tes...

Re: Strange Queen behaviour?

A few weeks back I caught two Camponotus Queens both the same species and caught both on the same day. The first queen is doing really good and has a massive clutch of eggs, the second queen has not laid a single egg yet and I don’t know why. I am keeping them both in exactly identical setups and c...

Re: Need help Identifying this Queens species

I caught two of these queens about a week ago, they both look identical and I didn't want to disturb the first queen because she already has eggs but this queen has no eggs yet so I decided to take her out to get some pics so someone can help me identify her species, I'm pretty sure the genus is Ca...

Re: Huge queen near 1.7cm, can someone help with ID?

I gave my queens two drops of sugar syrup when i first caught them and I watched them drink it right up, I had a little peek yesterday and the first queen was carrying more eggs around in her mandibles, second queen is still not laying though. I decided to name the first queen "Queen Agatha" and I t...

Re: Huge queen near 1.7cm, can someone help with ID?

how are you going to transfer them? Especially the one that started laying, I was wondering how I would go about mine, since I'm afraid she will eat the eggs instead of transporting them, even if she accepts the new setup to move there freely to begin with Connect the old setup to the new test tube...

Re: Huge queen near 1.7cm, can someone help with ID?

These ones look great, If mine does not start laying and I don't find large test tubes I might do something like that! Maybe you could cover the holes with some paper, she will obviously not escape thru there but since the interior will be humid it could attract mites or small insects, I usually pu...
