Re: Help with Queens
Thank you. I'll keep that in mind for when I get a colony. On another note. Anywhere I could get outworlds cheaper than new or perhaps substitutes that work well? They seem to be priced ok but I'm a bit short on cash so saving money anywhere I can is a plus. If not I'll just save for a month or two ...

Re: Help with Queens
Sorry to hear that. Does that temp generally go for all (native) species in N. America? If so I'm done for as in the winter it's below freezing and in the summer it's been over 100° F with no AC

Re: Help with Queens
I tried to find some info but I couldnt; what's the max temp you can store a test tube setup? It got to 95-100° F (38°C?) For about 4 hours in my kitchen because I was making chicken stock. That's where I kept a queen I had found a few days prior and now she seems to have died

Re: Help with Queens
I give up. This was my third queen. One escaped, one drown, and now a wild colony has pulled out the cotton on her test tube and killed my camponotus queen. I don't have the time to look for more and I got yelled at for looking at work. I won't be joining yall this year I guess

Re: Help with Queens
You were right! I happened upon what seems to be a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus queen. She's massive and wants to lay some eggs I hope. I had also found one belonging to the Formica genus but she drowned in her test tube sadly

Re: Help with Queens
Sadly it's a steel mill in a different state. It doesn't seem like a big deal but I don't want to transport over state lines

Re: Help with Queens
Thank you for a swift reply but I work from 0400 to 1700 daily, so I guess I'm gonna miss prime time to catch. Perhaps I'll be fortunate enough to happen upon a straggler.

Help with Queens
I've been watching videos and admiring ant colonies for years now. That being said, I'm just now allowed to get one myself (wife hates insects) and I just don't have much time to catch one myself. I'm looking for tips as to when the best times to capture are specifically because I only have 4 or 5 h...
