What did I do wrong?
I had a colony of horse ant. Queen, around 40-50 workers, brood at different stages. The colony seemed to be doing well, ate well had plenty of water and the occasional bit of honey. Then, workers started dying, didnt think anything of it at first, then more started dying at a alarming rate, then th...

Re: Is honey water a good substitute for honey?
Just an update. I put a test tube with regular water and my ants completely ignored it. I even left it there and let the other test tube full of honey water be used up, still they ignored it except for like one ant ever once in a while. As soon as more honey water is place, they swarm out of the nes...

Is honey water a good substitute for honey?
I give my ants mixed honey water. Is this acceptable as a sugary food source or should I give them straight raw honey and just regular water? I feel it is because every time I give them a drop of honey in their outworld, it's mostly ignored, except for the occasional ant that takes a quick lick of i...

Poop in the nest
I need advice/help. My Camponotus colony has been in their new formicarium for a little over a week now. With estimated 200 workers at least they've done alot of going to the bathroom. From watching AntsCanada videos I know this is normal, my question is how much is acceptable before it starts becom...

Re: My strange queen
I thought about the moisture part of the nest too. I removed some of the cotton as a way to lessen moisture. She is in there now and hasn't left, but she still has her wings. Will she ever shed them? Or will she keep them for her life

My strange queen
Hello everyone, recently my Camponotus formicarium and outworld arrived and in no time at all my colony of Carpenter ants moved right in. I estimated there are anywhere from 200-250 workers. They appear to really love their outworld but today I noticed something strange. My queen. She still hadn't s...

Re: Over feeding - what are the problems
How big is the colony? Estimated amount of workers? The fear is valid, if the ants leave uneaten food in the out world or the nest, it could attract unwanted pests like flies or parasitic mites. Play around a little with how much you feed them, if there's too much excess after it seems the colony ha...

Is my queen fully claustral?
Hi everyone! New to the forum and am enjoying the wealth of information. I recently caught a queen ant that, after doing research, is a black and red wood ant or horse ant as they are also called. At first I had doubts she was a queen but she recently started laying eggs. The one thing I'm not quite...
