Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

Thank you for the answer ! I think I found some beetle larvaes, I froze them all to get rid of bacterias. So far I don't have any worker (only cocoons and a big batch of eggs) so I shouldn't have to worry about feeding them any time soon if I understood the whole thing right.. Heh. How are they doi...

Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

I've been digging but the only thing I can find are earthworms. Found a few beetles so maybe I can find beetle grubs if I do some better research. The Queen is still grooming the larvaes and seems alright, but there are only 3. Is this going to be an issue ? Will she lay more before winter ? Thank y...

Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

Yep, she is a queen and she would be bigger than most of her workers. Also what is your live insect dilemma? I read that mealworms or cockroaches make the best nutritious food for ants, but I'm afraid I won't find any of those around here and there's nowhere to buy them. But maybe I'm thinking way ...

Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

Do you confirm that she is a Queen ? I haven't found any ants as big nearby, just a corpse. Could she be a Carpenter black ant ? I've been watching AntsCanada for a while but never thought I'd actually end up with an ant in my house heh... If it comes to feeding her in a few weeks I don't know if I'...

Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

Thank you for your quick answers, I appreciate it a lot. I don't think we have any really exotic ants here, as it's quite cold year long, but again I don't know much about any of this. Here are two pictures, the first one where I found her, the second one in her test tube. Maybe this will help ? I c...

Re: Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

The first thing to do would be to identify the queen; these are some of the common Camponotus ants in France: Camponotus ligniperdus, aethiops, cruentatus, fallax, lateralis, ligniperda, piceus, pilicornis, sylvaticus, universitatis, and vagus. Sorry if I missed a few I live in Texas. I just want t...

Help... Not an antkeeper, trying to save a Queen

Hello everyone, New to this kind of forums, i've never kept ants or have any experience with insects but I desperately need your help. While destroying an old wooden dog house, I found what seems to be a Queen ant (carpenter black ant maybe, I have no idea). She was alone in a small hole of rotten w...
