Re: My journey keeping a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Colony
Sept 21 - That’s it!! The last pupae enclosed yesterday or today. That brings an end to the founding stage and brings the colony up to 12 workers! The remaining brood are larvae and eggs. Now the colony will be preparing for diapause (hibernation). They will fill their gasters as full as they can a...

Re: C. noveboracensis and T. spE: My first dive into ant keeping
So it is a bit early, but my ants insist it is time for diapause so I am officially announcing it. #antwinter for The Carpenters. The pavement ants though... The one queen that went solo that I had kinda counted on not making it is alive! Complete with her first worker, slow, but steady! Not all the...

Re: My journey keeping a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Colony
Quick update on my colony. My 10th nanitic enclosed yesterday! So glad I didn’t cook them all. I have another ready to enclose. Mmm guessing in the next 2-3 days. It’s the largest pupae yet! Excited to see how big she will be. I’ll post more in the next few days. Plus I’ll share some of my new purc...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Hey guys. Last night it rained like crazy there was even lightning :o . It was pretty scary. Well, this morning my dad wakes me up saying let see if there are any late fliers. I said "okay". We went out and we saw a whole bunch of males coming out of holes!!! We walked around and we started to disc...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
I’m probably older then all of you haha 🤫 I won’t say unless you guess. Just think of us in terms of a worker ant, we must seem like Goliath ancients. Even their own queen would seem like a practically-ageless goddess, watching over and giving life to their civilization for generations. I think the...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Hello, welcome to the crew flinx45. Glad to have you here. Nice to see a fellow Wisconsin guy here. I've always wanted a C. noveboracensis queen. They are really pretty. As far as diapause, I don't know too much about that, sorry. I do know that you should hibernate your ants anywhere from 2-10 deg...

Awesome Kherafox!
I'm a bit jealous too! I'd love a crematogaster colony to watch.
