I know a lot of people paint the outside with non toxic acrillic paint ! They say it helps with water retention ! So that might help

They don't really need to come out much cos there's so few of them there food and liquid needs are low all you can do is leave them be and as the colony gets bigger they LL get more adventurous

It will slowly dry out I wouldn't worry unless you think there gonna physicaly drown a few pictures of the setup might help to understand better what's going on

Just brush them out they can't really survive cold so you shouldn't have a long term problem but best tobact straight away put them in bag then freezer for ten mins that should kill them and you could try the dead large with the ants and they may take them

They should grow rapid enough to be honest I have a colony of lasius and there growing rapidly but it is slow at start cos there needs are less

It should work ! At least it did on mine ! You haven't really given enough information as to why they died ? You could try honey of just sugar water and a small soft insect and put her into the dark for a week and see what happens

Carpenter ants are a good starter species but slow to grow but I suppose it depends what you can find maybe someone more local might help you out !

This is just my opinion but start with a different species pheidole can be difficult to take care of and to contain there's loads of great beginner species out there !

Looks great is the glass sealed on four sides with silicon cos they LL get through any gap
