Re: QUEEN ANT IDENTIFICATION NEEDED!!! VERY AGRESSIVE!!!
The statement was made from not only the company POV to help discourage the practice of taking any ant across state lines or country borders that do not allow a person to do so. Also it was made due to over 75% of the users on this forum never reading the rules for the AntsCanada Ant Forums. AntsCa...

Re: QUEEN ANT IDENTIFICATION NEEDED!!! VERY AGRESSIVE!!!
I'm not sure about Thailand, but it is definitely illegal in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia in addition to the U.S. I mean, technically it's only illegal if OP gets caught. I don't see any ethical issues with moving an ant from region to region. I also don't feel that we are ethically bound to ...

Re: Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Pupae cases are almost black...
Perhaps they were molting? That doesn't sound plausible to me. I'd suspect an environmental influence. Oh yeah, i guess hibernation? Yeah but that doesn't make much sense... They eclosed about a month before their hibernation iirc. Anyway I ended up releasing that colony back into the wild. It's na...

Re: Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Pupae cases are almost black...
The eclosed ants are paralyzed -- I had one that the C. Penn took out of its cocoon -- they kept it for a week before they took it away from the main cluster of pupae (and it started decaying). About 1/4 of the pupae developed like those (essentially they were paralyzed).

Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Pupae cases are almost black...
Basically, as stated in the title. I have some pupa who should be eclosing any day now. Some of the cases are starting to turn black. Now, I know pupa cases are supposed to darken before eclosing, but I've never seen anything this drastic in my formica ants. Could it be dead somehow? What does a dea...

Re: Polyergus/F. Subscericea Setup
So the colony is protecting itself from raids by blocking the entrance? Clever girls! Now I am unfamiliar with that species but wouldn't the slavemaker ants only need so many 'foreign workers' to get their colony going? As i understand it, a queen only needs slaves in the beginning. They're there t...

Re: Polyergus/F. Subscericea Setup
So, an interesting opportunity recently arose. I have a friend who raised a mature colony of F. Subscericea, and he is moving away and offered to give me the colony. It looks to have between 500 and 2000 ants (it's hard to tell because his setup is natural and I can't see in most of their nest). La...

Re: Illinois Ant locations and/or GAN farmers
Never heard of a fungal growing species in Illinois, I live around the Chicago suburbs, it’s too late for prenolepis right now but tell me more about the fungal ants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachymyrmex_septentrionalis They're basically just northern leafcutter ants, based on this article.
