Re: I'm concerned for the health of one of my new queens, please help

(I might have to move her into a new test tube soon, though, will she move her brood through a test tube portal by herself?) Queens will only grab a batch of eggs and will leave the rest, it's their natural behaviour, as queens moving nests in the wild will rely on her workers to grab most of the e...

Questions and Concerns on Queen

Hello, My Queen has been doing very well as she's about to have her first nanitic hatch and she's been laying A LOT of eggs since seeing her. I have a few questions though and concerns. 1. I have recently put her into a new Test tube as her old one was very dirty and I just wanted her to relax in a ...

Re: Wattage on heating cable

I use a 15 watt, as I've seen many other people do the same and it works out for them, and it surely works out for my queen.

Re: No eggs for months.

Probably definitely infertile. After 7 months she would've layed at least 1 egg (And if she's been stressed out to not laying eggs, she would've died by now). Also how much water do you put in those test tubes? Confused on why it keeps running out.

Re: Camponotus Queen just laid eggs!!!

1. Since this species is fully claustral, I'd say check up on her every month. Checking up on her every week or two (Did I suggest every week? Apologise if I did, I have a semi-claustral queen so I check up on her every week so I might have gotten things mixed up) could potentially stress her out to...

Re: Camponotus Queen just laid eggs!!!

Yes. I'd say around 5 or more workers before she might move to a small Ytong or Acrylic (or whatever nest design you want) nest. From what I know, the Camponotus species around my area have quite large workers and big queens, so I'd move them out of a test tube once 5 workers have hatched, but it se...

Re: Camponotus Queen just laid eggs!!!

1. I wouldn't look at her for more than a minute, maybe even less than a minute. I only just look at my queen for a few seconds before pulling back her cover, but for more important check-ups, I'd look at her for almost a minute, to make sure I've taken note of her progress. 2. I'm not exactly sure ...

Re: Beginner and need some help!

Okay Update, I've gotten her set up on the Outworld and she's been relocated to my sunroom. I'm going to be hoping she stays alive tonight as it's her first. I've decided to add the heating cable but because she's in the sunroom, I may turn it from midday to evening. I got a quick peek of her test t...

Re: my queen ant is not laying eggs

Okay a bit off topic here but I find it nice seeing younger people try housing and raising colonies of their own, very nice.

Re: Myrmica rubra not active.

19 degrees Celsius? That's too low, the ants are probably not that active due to the cold temperature, I'd say raise it up somehow, I use a heating cable that does fine and my queen is very active (E.g. she runs across the test tube quite quickly when I check on her, but that could also just be part...
