Missed the fact that she was 9mm, this is Lasius interjectus.
Hmm, then I should definitely let her go then, yes? I read last night that they only feed on the secretions of certain types of mealybugs/aphids that feed on the roots of plants?

Re: Identification Help

Hi - I have one of these ladies too - not sure what to do with her as from what I have read they only consume the excretions from certain types of mealybugs/aphids that live off of the roots of plants.

Is this even a Queen - and if so what kind (Part II)

So I found another ant today - with wings - is it a queen or a male alate? Bowie, MD USA, about 9am in the morning along my walking path. It is quite laid back - so might be a male that is about to bite the dust...? 05 June 2019 6.35mm long https://i.imgur.com/Qo5IFim.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fShu0hq...

Is this even a Queen - and if so what kind?

Hi again all - I found this lady in Bowie, MD on 01 June 2019 in my neighborhood. She was crawling along the curb - seemingly looking for a place to hide. I had a bottle with me and picked her up! She is about 9.525mm long. When I first got her she was pretty restless for the first few hours but now...

Re: Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) Nuptial Sightings

Hi everyone, Thanks for the DelMarVa post. I'm in Bowie, MD and new to ant keeping! I found 1 queen on 20 April 2019, but still not 100% sure if she's a Camponotus as she does look rather small. She's 3/8 of an inch long or 9.5mm. She is doing good though - last time I checked she was protecting 4 e...

Re: What's The Importance of Wet Cotton Positioning?

I'm new here too so hope I'm giving decent advise: when I purchased my test tubes from AC, I also purchased an AC Test Tube Portal (link below). Once the nest has it's first 1-3 first workers I will attach their test tube to the portal (and seal the other 3 portal holes). I will feed them in there a...

Re: ID Help Please -

Wow! Thanks WillWithAnts and 23Brendan... very much appreciate your replies/input. So far she seems happy in the dark in her test tube setup. Is it okay to peep in on her once a week? I get nervous that the water won't seep through the cotton ball (it's a bit tight) and that she will dehydrate. I us...
