Re: Camponotus spp queen activity

I guess patience wins the day, again. I peeked at her this morning, three eggs :D She reacted to the light by waving her antennae and standing over her eggs, so much better than the freak out of a week ago. The eggs were on the wet cotton side but separated from it by around a 1/4 inch. So I think I...

Giant Mealworms Hormone

Hey all, I recently was looking up mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) vs super worms (Zoohobas morio) and I ran into giant mealworms (Tenebrio molitor + juvenile hormone). It sounds like a product is applied to the meal worms that keeps them from molting so they can’t go on to the next stage but continue ...

Re: Camponotus spp queen activity

For the humidity what do you recommend? I could add a piece of rubber tubing to the end of the test tube essentially making the test tube longer so she can get further away from the water reservoir. I don’t know if that would make the nest too large. The other thought I had was just attaching it to ...

Re: What do you use to feed sugar to your ants?

I am a noob, so grain of salt... I am really liking frozen corn kernels. My Tetramorium immigrans workers seem to really like them (even when they are starting to dry out). I know they are not a very picky ant so perhaps it doesn't work for others? Corn is really starchy so I feel like it is an adeq...

Camponotus spp queen activity

Hey all I am new, Are Camponotus queens in general more active in their test tube setup than say Tetramorium immigrans? (my only other experience). I found this queen a week ago. I think she is quite fetching! (sorry just took a couple quick snaps before setting her up, so not the best quality. figu...

Re: Ant ID: Boardman, Oregon USA

Update: I think I over estimated the size of the workers. They are closer to 3mm. The queens appear to be 6-7mm. The area where I found the queens last summer was desert with sagebrush near irrigated farm fields, mostly wheat and potatoes. The Columbia river is about a half mile away. I have attache...

Ant ID: Boardman, Oregon USA

Hello, Would anyone be able to help me out? I am definitely a novice. I had the desire to find some queens last summer (6/18/2018) so I started paying closer attention to the weather. One morning at work I had a new queen land on me, an hour or so later this is what I found. https://i.imgur.com/JgQe...
