Hello all, Do Camponotus aeneopilosus (Golden tailed sugar ant) need to hibernate? I am not sure because they are from Australia and I am not certain on if they would have a hibernation season there or not.

Myrica Rubra colony growth rate?
Hi all, I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I have a myrmica rubra colony with 7 queens and about 200 or so workers. What sort of growth rate can be expected? Just wondering so I can be prepared with larger nest on hand when they reach max capacity for the one they are in now (aus ants small...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!
Hello! I am from northern British Columbia and am keeping Camponotus Nova currently, when the colony grows a bit I intend to move them from their Hybrid Nest and AC Outworld to a natural setup. I really want to find a Formica Rufa queen and start a colony of them as they are my all time favorite nat...

When to upsize nest/formicarium?
Hey all, somewhat new to the forum. I have a myrmica rubra colony of about 200 workers and 7 queens(my estimate as they are small and hard to count) or so. I have them in a AusAnts ytong Small nest which says its good for 50-1000 ants. The question I have is when will i know that they are ready for ...

Ant genus identification
Hey all I'm relatively new to ants and have always been fascinated by them. This will be my first year at keeping any. So I've been seeing what species I have in my area. There is one however that I believe to be Formica exsectoides but all the research I do says this ant lives in Eastern Canada and...

Multiple Camponotus Queens
Hey all, I am new into ant keeping and was going to try to collect my first queens this nuptial flight season. I am hoping to get a few Camponotus queens as they are native to my area. The question I have is that if I successfully capture a few once they are ready to move out of test tube setups can...

Re: Ant genus for starting
So after spending the whole day doing research I have decided to go with Camponotus ants as my first go. Question though is if I collect several queens for test tube set ups am I able to eventually put them into the same hybrid nest?
