Re: Fresh Caught Queen, August 28th, Kent Train Station, Washington, USA | Identification Assistance Requested

I could try, but it's a little difficult when using a smartphone. I'll see what I can get. A close up side view would be most helpful. I don't think she is Tetramorium btw Yes. I was guessing Myrmica rubra, or Pogonomyrmex sp. personally, due to the colouration. I mentioned Tetramorium as a species...

Fresh Caught Queen, August 28th, Kent Train Station, Washington, USA | Identification Assistance Requested

I'm having trouble clearly IDing this queen. She kind of resembles my Tetramorium queen, but is an entirely different colour. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/412714184057552896/616654086909067353/IMG_20190829_082033899.jpg https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/412714184057552896/616654088544...

Re: Camponotus flights yet??

Just caught three large black Camponotus sp. yesterday on the sidewalk just outside my house. One of them had already dealated herself. Looks like all this week is supposed to be good weather for them in the Kent, WA area.

Re: Camponotus flights yet??

According to my weather app, it's gonna hit the 60's this evening, and the highs should be in the 60's for Wednesday-Friday.

Re: Camponotus flights yet??

They're flying right this minute! Typing from mobile, saw one fly into the bushes just as my bus arrived for me to go to work, so sadly I couldn't catch her.

But they're out there! Pretty sizeable species, almost looked to be an inch long from my bench-seated perspective!

Re: Not sure if she's a queen, but she appears to have a hump.

She does indeed appear to have two dark dots on either side of her thorax, although it's hard to see. I only have a 15x lens to use as a jeweler's loupe, and she's roughly 5 mm long. :? I did also include a dab of honey about half the size of her head when I put her in the tube, and she has not touc...

Re: Fresh Caught Queen, March 20th, Kent, Washington, USA | Identification Assistance Requested

Unfortunately, it seems I don't actually have a queen ant here. I just got a positive ID as a genus Ceratina carpenter bee from a friend of mine who's with the Burke Museum. I guess it's back to the trails to find a queen of the ant variety for me. :( At least I know there's mass volumes of Tetramor...

Second attempt at photography of the critter.

Will these suffice, or do I need better lighting?
