Akumi's C. pennsylvanicus journal
Hey all! Today I'm starting an Ant Journal with a camponotus pennsylvanicus queen. I just caught her 2 days ago, in the afternoon as she was wandering along the side of my house. She was very stubborn to enter my test tube, it took almost an hour for her to finally decide she wanted to stay in it. (...

Re: All of my antkeeping mistakes that led to a disaster!
Thank you for your answer! Does it mean I still need to provide my queen a droplet of honeywater once a week? Do I also need to give her some protein like fruit flies so she can feed them to her larvae? The larvae are really tiny and I only saw one moving a bit. I hope that my queen will recover af...

I think that's because they cluster their bathroom space together, so the lines look longer than they actually are. (Plus, they may have to go really badly and depending on where the chamber is, it could be a lot to hold in! )

I saw one for Virginia b...

Re: Camponotus queen injured, can i transfer her brood to other colony?
You should be able to use tweezers, just be very careful. The queen will accept the brood, but it may not be a good idea as after they hatch she may not accept them. Good luck either way! Sorry to hear about the cat thing, btw. Reminds me of the time where my dog almost killed a queen ant I found by...

Re: Lasius Niger - failing colony?
... I would try feeding them bugs and sugar water immediately. Since only feeding them peanut butter could potentially be exacerbating their development problems. I’m not sure if a diet consisting of only peanut butter is bad for them long term. ... Adding onto this, not only is it bad that you're ...

Re: Messor white streaks on walls.
I'm pretty sure what you're talking about is ant feces (poop!). This is normal for ants and it's not a thing to worry about, just make sure their enclosure gets cleaned every once and a while.
