Re: Newbe alert! Need some help:)

You will be unlikely to find a mated queen in your house because there would probably be no Lasius niger males there, they will most likely have to go to a specific field or place to mate. I have never experienced problems with visibility when keeping Lasius niger ants, even though they are small. I...

Re: ant found in house not sure queen

It is hard to tell from the image, but it looks like a queen. Calling pest control is unnecessary, I think there are other ways of dealing with this. If you think that you have a colony, the presence of a queen does not prove that, the queen was planning to start a colony, but did not get the chance...

Re: Is it safe to tip the ants out the test tube into a fishtank with digging soil in?

Ants prefer damp soil, so try to dampen the soil so that the ants can dig tunnels in it. You can encourage ants to move by using bright light, as long as you do not burn them. I was in exactly the same situation, and tipped my Messor barbarus colony out of the test tube, and they had dug a nest in a...

Ants not classified properly?

Ants have an unusual classification where one genus can contain hundreds of species and there are 300 genera in the family Formicidae. When this is compared to mammals, they will have less than 10 species in a genus and less than 10 genera in a family, or there would be subfamilies to minimise the n...

Re: ant found in house not sure queen

It could be a queen, to find out, send an image clearly showing the ant. Images sent using the software of this forum have a high chance of not sending, so try to send a link to a dropbox if possible. Judging by the images, many people in this forum could identify the cast of the ant (queen or not)....

Re: Newbe alert! Need some help:)

Queens only crawl out of mature (large) colonies, and even if you see one come out, catching it would be pointless because the queen would not be mated, and therefore fail to start a colony. So, in short, a winged ant crawling out of a nest could be a queen, but it would not be of any use to you. Di...

Re: Ant friendly way to move a colony out of my house

You can, many of the people on this forum do that. Also, you can start a new topic in the 'species identification centre ' as another option.

Sorry, but I do not think that the photos sent this time either.
Most people on this forum use other websites such as imgur to end photographs due to arising complications when sending photos.
