Camponotus Larva Not Growing

Hello, I have had a Camponotus americanus colony for a few months and the queen laid a fair amount of eggs a couple of months ago and the larva are growing very slowly. I understand that the growing rate of Camponotus is slower than most, around 2 months for egg to worker, but it has been over two m...

Re: Activity after hibernation concerns, help

Thank you very much, that helps ease some of my concern a lot. I was worried that I had done something wrong, but thank you very much!

Re: Activity after hibernation concerns, help

One of the worker has been foraging constantly today, she has accepted lots of protein and has been seen feeding it to the rest of the colony, who still are not as active. So does this mean that they are starting to come out of hibernation since she has been accepting protein and some of the workers...

Re: Activity after hibernation concerns, help

Yes, I had tried to do it the best that I could, I took them out after a string of mild warm winter days, so the room that they were in was around 63 degrees F. and then I took them out into the house which is around 72 degrees F. I have noticed some recent activity but overall the ants still are no...

Re: Hibernation

I removed them so early because I had them hibernating for three months so I could remove them now and give them some time to warm up hopefully and then start to lay eggs again, after they had their much needed rest as well.

Re: Hibernation

Thank you for that advice, I have recently offered them some honey in case they want to come out and they are staying nice and warm in my room. I will probably offer them some insects every now and then too in case they come out so they can get some protein in their diet. But I will remain patient w...

Re: Hibernation

Thank you for responding, I am from Ohio, so it is still pretty cold but I did put them through a three month hibernation and moved them out yesterday. I check on them every morning and move the red cover I have over their test tube and today more workers began to move their antennae due to the ligh...

Activity after hibernation concerns, help

Hello, I was hoping that someone would be able to assist me with my new ant colony. I have a Camponotus Americanus colony with about 5 workers that just recently came out of hibernation that was about three months long and I put them in an AC test tube portal. At the beginning of the day they were a...
