Hello does lasius niger need any kind of substrate to spin there coocuns? i have a type of gravel substrate in there outworld but if they need substrate to spin the coocuns do i have to give them a more finer substrate like sand or dirt?

To me it sounds like they are comming out of hibernation then. So i dont think you have to be worried.

I think they are still hibernating on their own. this often happends to colonies that skips hibernation or dosent have a very long one. Even if the temperature rises the ants inner hibernation clock tells them to hibernate. If thats the case the queen shouldnt lay any eggs and the colony should not ...

Nice then i would really try to catch some! Yes of course i would have the right requierments for them i already keep an species from south europe, messor barbarus so i know that they require a little more than room temp.

I dont think she wants to move yet. If she has water in the other test tube she is fine and will drink from it when she needs.
