Burning candles in the same room as ants
So here’s an interesting question. I keep my ant farm in my room, but I like burning candles sometimes to freshen up the smell a bit. I then got to thinking about if the smell might be harmful to my ants. So my question is is it ok to burn a candle in the same place as my ants? If it helps, I usuall...

Re: West Florida Panhandle ant ID
I managed to go out and find another queen of the exact same type in the same spot and got some slightly better pics that might help.

West Florida Panhandle ant ID
I’m not sure if this picture is good enough for ID, but it’s the best I could do since all I have is my phone. I want to think it’s a solenopsis ant of some sort because it’s a deep dark red color. It’s my very first Queen and the first Queen I’ve ever even seen irl.

Type of water to give my ants
Does it matter what kind of water I give my ants? i.e. like tap water, purified water, spring water, etc.? I would assume not distilled water since it has been deprived of all its natural minerals and such.

Ant tower promo
So I just bought the ant tower a couple of days ago and didn’t realize there was the promo to get the ant keeping handbook for free with it until now. Is there any way I can still get the book for free or would I have to purchase another ant tower?

Re: Are test tubes always necessary?
The new AntsCanada Ant Tower is perfect for this. It's a soil formicarium so the new queen can excavate her own claustral chamber. As workers come along, they can forage above ground in the upper section of the Ant Tower. Expanding the setup is easy with tubing as well. This is a good idea. Then la...

Are test tubes always necessary?
So I have never kept ants before and I want to try my hand at starting from just one queen and breeding my own colony. My question is, since the whole purpose of keeping a queen in a test tube is to simulate natural underground catacombs, wouldn’t it be just as effective to keep the queen in a formi...
