Queen Identification: SW Ohio; May 7, 9:30 pm
I was out looking for queens and decided to come back in for the night. Right as I'm about to close the door, I turn on the light and a massive alate runs out from under the door. I believe she is female, maybe Camponotus. https://imgur.com/NVbe8ra https://imgur.com/d3jJ2xp https://imgur.com/ray9Qkg...

Re: Identification Help
I'd need images, location, and time of year caught to identify it. For images use imgur links, they're easy to use. Just select the URL2 button on the AntsCanada forum typing platform and paste the image link in between the two [URL2] bits.

It might just be me, but I can't see the images you posted. Try using a link to an imgur post.

I think the species is Crematogaster Cerasi, and thank you for the help! She's in a 3D printed founding chamber, but she's getting an extension soon.

I've done some research, and I think it could either be some Lasius species, or a type of Crematogaster

SW Ohio: Is this a Queen? If so, what is it?
I was chopping up rotting logs this morning, and I happened upon a glossy black ant hiding in a crevice just inside the surface of the wood. It has an enlarged gaster, a stocky abdomen, a small head, and moved very purposefully (if that makes any sense?). Is she a queen? (It rained two days ago. Wel...

Re: SW Ohio: Worker Identification
AntsDakota you're definitely right. The elates are identical to the ones I saw yesterday, and the workers look very similar too. I really appreciate it!

Re: Texas Ant ID
Here's a photo of a "Velvet Ant" http://somethingscrawlinginmyhair.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/velvet.ant_.side_.jpg They're actually not ants, but are much closer to known wasps. They are solitary predatory insects, and are most definitely not queens! Be careful, they're also known as "Cow Kille...
