Mold outbreak
I have a large ac ant tower with an ant colony and bioactive soil. The top half is doing really well, with tons of spring tails, isopods, the ants, and a few other soil creatures. The reservoir at the bottom of my setup isn't doing as well and has a large mold outbreak; I'm not sure what to do. The ...

Re: Weird behavior
Update: The workers are taking care of the original brood in the test tube but I noticed today they had a brand new clutch of eggs that was much smaller than the original cluster. I haven't seen the queen and she isn't with the ants and brood In the test tube, still I'd guess that the workers are ta...

Re: Weird behavior
I was wrong, the weird behaviors aren't finished. The workers have moved themselves and a bunch of brood into a test tube setup I had attached but seem to have left the queen somewhere in the out world. I didn't catch any brood when I caught the rest of the colony so the queen had to have laid all t...

Re: Weird behavior
Update: I was watering some of the plants in the terrarium and I forgot to seal the watering port when I finished. This very quickly tempted the ants out of hiding as 5 min later I noticed they had started escaping. I used some cotton to catch all the escapees and fixed my mistake. I then decided to...

Re: Weird behavior
Still no sign of them I have located a new hole near the center of the terrarium though, that may be a new nest. I'm not sure if the soil is the issue because they built a nest in it when I first put them in, they seemed to do fine foraging and building for about a week and a half before the rebelli...

Re: Weird behavior
So far I can't find them. They seem to have totally abandoned the original nest as I've seen no ants in there since the "rebellion". I haven't seen any ant activity in about a day and a half and I rotated the tower to see if I could find a new nest site. Nothing.
Will keep updating.

Re: Weird behavior
I did not raise these, I captured them from a nest that was being destroyed. There is a queen and 7-8 workers and they are being kept in a large ant tower from the AntsCanada store.

Weird behavior
I recently got a monomorium colony and they were doing fine until I noticed the queen was out and about by herself last night. Today when I checked on them, all of the workers have gathered on the underside of one leaf outside the nest and are still while the queen is all the way on the other side o...

Re: Saving a colony
I put a hole in the container and attached a test tube set up with a clean straw and some cotton. Hopefully they'll find it more appealing. Thanks for the help.

Saving a colony
Recently I was at a friend's house and managed to catch a queen, 3 or 4 workers, and some brood from a nest that was being destroyed. I put them in a small clear to go container with about 1/4 inch of dirt, some moss, a capfull of water, and some honey on a leaf to get them home. Now I'm wondering i...
