Looking at pictures now and it's pretty clear. The thorax is way bigger and sort of flat on top. I let her go this morning where I found her. I guess I just got excited when I saw her. I need to study my local species more before I go out queen hunting. It's weird that I've gone my entire life think...

Had my first ant walk yesterday and was super excited to find a C. Pennsylvanicus. Sadly, after posting for an ID here, found out that it was a major. Going out again today. I'll keep my eye on this thread unless you know of a better one for Texas.

Crap! How could you tell? I could have sworn that I saw wing scars. This is my first time, so I guess mistakes will be made. Lol. Thank you! I'll go for a walk again today. Now I feel bad for keeping her cramped up all night and day.

Hi, all! So I've been watching videos and reading for about a month and now I want to try it out! Found in Austin, TX on 10/2/18. It was about 6 hours after a rain on a nice walking trail at the park. We've been getting plenty of rain for the past 2-3 weeks. She's large and black. My guess is Campon...
