If the Lasius workers were dragging the parasitic queens into the nest than this is exactly what the queen wanted. Whether the workers thought they were bringing in food, their own queen, one of their workers, or what they thought was a larvae/brood is another question up for debate. But it is thou...

More ID Help - Southern Ontario, October 3 in the garden.

What species is this ant I found? Reason I'm asking is I like the way they go about in the garden, their shape and is it a good species of interest to keep or not and any tips. Thanks. http://i66.tinypic.com/2s01d02.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/2qas9jb.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/155gt4y.jpg http://i67...

Being parasitic, they probably won't do anything in the test tube will they? I took a few others I found (from the same spot) and put them in my viva...

Re: So.... Brought in some ants

But even if you catch a mated Queen you will need some type of Lasius host workers. As Claviger is a parasite queen and can’t start their own colony. They infiltrate a Lasius nest and kill the queen. The existing Lasius workers take care of the claviger Queen and her brood. And if you had lasius ho...
