Re: Journey of my Trap Jaw Ant Colony
We now have 4 workers!!! The colony has been growing really fast and I'm really happy about that. They have also started digging tunnels in the sand underneath the piece of bark beside the wall, you can see the pile to the right of the bark. It's probably because they were running out of room in the...

Re: Do Odontomachus need to eat sugary foods all the time?
Hi there, Im raising a queen of odontomachus and another one of ectattoma ants which are semi claustral and I know they are very tricky to care for but I accepted the challenge regardless of the difficulty. The odontomachus has a lot of eggs which she carries with her jaws and i feed her (as well a...

Journey of my Trap Jaw Ant Colony
Hello, This is my first legitimate try at keeping an ant colony and this is my journey. It started out at this forum post (https://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=11563) if you want to see from the beginning. It has now been almost 2 months since I started taking care of her and now she ha...

Re: Trap Jaw Ant Setup
WE HAVE WORKERS!!!!!!! She finally produced her first worker about 4-5 days ago, (I think), and now she has a total of 2 workers! :o :P They have also covered the entrance with sand so that it comes to a funnel with only a little whole around the middle of it. My hard work has finally paid off. :D h...

Re: Trap Jaw Ant Setup
Update The plants aren’t looking so good but they are still alive, except for the one that was in the top right corner. But she hasn’t layed any eggs yet!!! I think the cotton in her tube has gone moldy but I’m not sure and I have a smaller second tube with water outside for her to move into....

Re: Trap Jaw Ant Setup
Update Week 2 I think she comes out mostly at night because I’ve seen her a couple times when I look into her container after the sun has gone down. She has also started piling sand from what I’m pretty sure is her test tube at the entrance of it. Pill bug not found http://i36.photobucket.com/albums...

Thanks.StormDancer wrote: ↑Tue Sep 25, 2018 9:08 amHaha, yes. I caught two trap jaw queens last year and several other species. None of them survived. It was my first time with them. This year I've had very few deaths. Didn't find trap jaws again though. So you're doing very well.

Re: Trap Jaw Ant Setup
The setup looks good to me, I cannot advise to the type of soil they like. As long as it's chemical free, no pesticides or fertilizers, I believe she'll do fine. With the tube buried she will likely stay inside of it until it is no longer suitable. I would not remove the tube to look at it, provide...
