Re: can queen lay eggs without mating?

Therefore an infertile queen can not produce male drones or female workers. You kinda did even if you did not mean too. And no that is not what I ment at all. And they refer to queen's who have not mated as infertile. Why? I have no idea but if anyone has that answer please educate me as I would re...

Re: Condensation in hybrid nest

Condensation is formed when warm air meets a cool surface. So the heating cable is warming the air inside the nest which hits the cold glass and then forms droplets of water. To prevent this you need to either heat the air inside the nest less or increase the temperature of the glass. The condensat...

Re: can queen lay eggs without mating?

Also I never said an infertile queen can not lay trophic eggs. I also never said a mated queen can only produce male drones. In fact I said the complete opposite of that. If you meant to say why would an un-mated queen only produce male drones it’s because she can only lay unfertilized eggs since sh...

Re: can queen lay eggs without mating?

I just want to point out that the term infertile is often used incorrectly in regards to ant keeping. Infertile means a female can not produce offspring. Therefore an infertile queen can not produce male drones or female workers. The term your looking for is not mated or unfertilized. Which means t...

Re: Type of water to give my ants

Does it matter what kind of water I give my ants? i.e. like tap water, purified water, spring water, etc.? I would assume not distilled water since it has been deprived of all its natural minerals and such. I've generally heard that distilled is preferred, simply because you can be more certain it ...

Re: can queen lay eggs without mating?

Nearly every species if not all on the entire planet that lay eggs can lay eggs without mating. That’s how you can eat chicken eggs that have yolk inside them instead of a baby chick. Also female mammals (including humans) ovulate at their set times weather or not they have mated. Many ant keepers c...

It's not really Brazil's laws you have to worry about its the U.S's laws. The U.S does not allow importing ant's like that without specific licences.
That is of course if he lives in America otherwise the U.S laws are irrelevant.

Re: Silicon problem and Condensation in formicarium

If you can smell any chemicals do not put your ants in there. Many aquarium grade silicon is only safe until it completely cures. If you can smell chemicals then that means the silicon is leeching chemicals into the nest. Also if the silicon wasn’t aquarium grade than it will never be safe to put an...

Re: Test tube cleaning

Lol getting that cotton out when it gets pushed to the end is the worst. I use a metal meat thermometer to try and fish it out. Sometimes it’s so annoying it get out I just throw the test tube out. That’s actually why I hate AC test tubes. For some reason they made the bottoms of the test tubes skin...
