Re: Adding water..
Yes, even I got a new queen and I am always tempted to look at her. I put her in a test tube but it cracked so I moved her to a small bottle. I must refill the water every now and then as there is no water reservoir, but she does not seem to mind. I have a Lasius Niger, which is pretty hardy. Some o...

Re: Ants next to musical instruments
My queen is next to a piano, and she does not seem to mind. I don’t think your ants will mind. If they do seem to act oddly then you should move them.

Re: I have caught hundreds of lasius niger queens
Oh ok. I knew it was not a good idea to catch so many queens. I thought it was because of the above mentioned reason rather than the fact that they will fight.

Re: I have caught hundreds of lasius niger queens
You should never catch so many queens. It causes a major ecological imbalance. If you caught them as they were walking around or flying around, they are fertile. If they don’t have wings, then you can be sure beyond a shadow of doubt that they are fertile. There are many vedios on how to take care o...

I don’t know, but there are many charts on the internet where you can find out. I found out that my colony is a Lasius Niger using one of those.

Re: Help with protein
You can feed them cut up spiders. If you caught them in your house rather than in a garden, they won’t have any pesticides. You could boil the insects, but this does not always work.

Re: EMERGENCY HELP!
I’m guessing you check on her too often, something I am also guilty of. They require solitude when they are founding. Otherwise, no idea.

Re: I need help
You can just feed her sugar water, or honey water and even fruits like apples(not cores or seeds as they contain cynide) and bananas. I am not sure about resins but you could try. Also, if you are starting a colony, I am guessing the queen does not have any workers. They are fully claustral so they ...

Re: Ant food/diet
Ok, Thank you. And I did find cockroaches and crickets, but I am horrified by even the thought of them. I did not dare to even look at them for more than a few seconds with feeling uneasy.
