I would just add some seeds. they would eat most seeds given to them. As for the second question i have no idea i would guess that they are the same.
Thanks for the answers and sorry for the late reply. Sometimes I overthink things. I'll just get seed from the local stors

Feeding Pogonomyrmex californicus grains?

Next spring I hope to find a Pogonomyrmex californicus queen. Looking at the care sheet it says Diet: granivorous, insectivorous, honey water/sugar water. The protein and carbs seam easy enough. But the Granivorous part got me a bit confused. Is it as easy as getting some seeds from the local nurser...

Re: Ant barrier or Screen cover?

I do not see an issue with it. My only fear would be how close the ants are to it when it comes to feeding or cleaning. See the barrier is to stop them getting to the top, where your screen will just stop them getting out while covered. I suppose you need to find out how well they will climb the si...

I have been wondering the same thing. It would be relay cool if you could. But I think if it where that easy people would be doing it more than caching queens.

Ant barrier or Screen cover?

I have been doing some reading on the deferent ant barriers. The one thing the keeps going through my mind is "Why not a screen cover." Can ants chew throw them? Are the holes to big? I have been looking, you can get steel screens that are 50 microns and smaller. I'm sure a lot of ants could not get...

Re: Ants Escaping Vertical Omninest

Any chance you can post some pictures of the Omni nest and where they getting out. I ask because I just orders one and would like to know what to look out for. It would probably help figure out the problem.

Re: Backyard Exploration

Those are some nice pictures! I’m not sure about your questions though Thanks. I'm starting to think that both the black ants and the red black ants are Carpenters. With some of the closer pitchers they look a lot alike except for the color. But the behavior is a bet deterrent. If I had to put mone...

Re: Backyard Exploration

Well I went out to the backyard again to see how the wild ants are doing. This time I through down some chickin that was going to get thrown out. The tiny orangish ants came out. The must close there nest off at night. The red black ants (witch I'm sure are a type of harvester ants) are digging in w...
